Why the plate says 9 kW
The European statutory plate shown in the manual lists the VARG EX as L3e-A1E with 9 kW homologated power. Those are the documented figures to use when a registration or licensing authority asks for statutory vehicle data.
The drivetrain specification separately gives peak outputs of 44 or 60 kW. These numbers describe different parameters. Use peak output when comparing performance; use the statutory plate and registration papers when establishing the motorcycle’s legal category.
Check one motorcycle, not the model in general
Before paying, match the VIN on the motorcycle to the full document set and inspect its statutory plate. Photographs from a listing, paperwork belonging to another VARG version and forum answers cannot establish the status of the bike in front of you.
Licence requirements follow national law and the data recorded for that motorcycle. If public-road access matters to your routes, confirm eligibility for your licence and registration country before handover. Any conflict between the VIN, plate and documents should stop the purchase until resolved.
Choose EX or MX around the route
EX is the road-focused VARG for riding that combines public-road links with off-road sections. MX is track focused. If every session takes place on closed ground, assess MX for that job; if the route touches a public road, begin with EX and verify its papers.
Adding lights, mirrors or a plate holder to a non-homologated motorcycle leaves its underlying homologation unchanged. Appearance is irrelevant here: the statutory plate, VIN and final registration documents decide whether the motorcycle can legally cover the road sections you need.
