Stark VARG EX range, charging and 7.2 kWh battery

One range figure says little about an off-road motorcycle. Pace, surface, power map, rider mass and temperature can change energy use more than the distance on a route.

Plan around your own riding time

The battery specification is 7.2 kWh and 420 V, but those figures do not turn into one dependable trail distance. Deep sand, mud and repeated hard acceleration use energy more quickly than smooth riding on firm ground.

The manual gives a maximum riding time of up to 6 hours. Read that as an upper limit under suitable use, not a promise for every route or session. Your pace, map, mass, surface and temperature all affect what you see.

The most useful method is to monitor consumption on a familiar loop. Repeat it in the conditions you normally ride and note the remaining level. After several sessions, you will have a practical reserve figure based on your pace rather than somebody else’s estimate.

Set up a safe charging routine

Charging takes about 2 hours on 220 V according to Stark. Before connecting anything, make sure the motorcycle, connector and charger are dry. Use a dry, ventilated location and keep the charger uncovered.

Do not leave the charging motorcycle unattended. Stark also says not to charge below 4°C and never to use a damaged battery or cable. These are operating restrictions, not optional precautions for particularly cautious owners.

Once charging is complete, disconnect the charger from both the motorcycle and the socket. A Bajamoto VARG EX includes the 3.3 kW stand charger, so the supplied charging setup is clear from the start.

Store the battery at the right level

Long storage calls for a different approach from preparing for tomorrow’s ride. Stark recommends leaving the charge between 30–50% and placing the motorcycle in a dry, frost-free environment.

The specified storage range is 0–30°C, with around 10°C preferred. Check the level every two weeks rather than assuming it will remain unchanged throughout the storage period.

If charge falls below 30%, recharge it to 50%. This simple schedule gives you a fixed threshold and avoids the common mistake of putting the bike away and ignoring its state until the next season.

Make range decisions before the ride

For a long or demanding session, consider the surface, expected pace and opportunities to return before setting off. A route that looks short can be energy-intensive when it contains soft ground or repeated climbs.

Use the display and your records together. The published maximum provides context, but your own repeated-loop data is the better planning tool for deciding when to turn back or schedule charging.
